Jewellery Care
We only source high quality metals and gemstones to create timeless jewellery pieces with precision and high-quality plating. However, please note that all gold- or silver-plated jewellery will gradually wear over time due to the inevitable effects of moisture, oil, sweat and oxidation from the air in the atmosphere. To extend the life of your jewellery, please take them off before you shower or swim and keep them away from moisture, perfume, deodorants, creams, handwash, chemicals (e.g., hairspray) etc.
Please follow these tips to maintain the quality, shine and colour of your jewellery and to prevent premature tarnishing:
- Keep them in your Surreal Sparkles Gift Box when not in use in a cool dark spot, away from heat and moisture.
- Put your Surreal Sparkles jewellery on last when getting ready.
- Avoid sweat when wearing your Surreal Sparkles jewellery.
- Wipe with a soft, jewellery polishing cloth.
- Do not sleep with your jewellery on.
- Avoid chemicals e.g. hand cream, perfume, deodorants, face/body creams, handwash, bodywash, sunscreen, hairspray, makeup setting spray etc.
- Avoid bathing, showering or washing your hands with jewellery on.
- Wait for hand/face/body creams to dry before putting any jewellery on.
- If your 925 Sterling Silver jewellery oxidises, you can easily get rid of the dark marks and tarnish with a polish cloth.
- Wipe down your Surreal Sparkles jewellery with a soft polishing cloth after every used before putting it back in the box.
The duration of the colour retention also depends on the following factors:
- Firstly, each person's endocrine system is different and the degree of colour preservation will depend on it. For some individuals, their sweat contains more acid which will cause plated jewellery to tarnish faster.
- Secondly, how you care for your jewellery will determine how long they last. Proper care is required to extend the life of your jewellery and to ensure its radiance, shine and colour is preserved.
Jewellery care for delicate items – Tennis Bracelets and Choker Necklaces
As with all tennis bracelets and choker necklaces, these items are delicate and should be treated with care. Please only gently pull it straight when removing it from the package. Please do not twist it and do not use a twist motion when you are opening or closing the clasp or the links may snap. If you twist it, this will be the reason why it snaps.
Please put the tennis bracelet/choker on last when getting ready and take it off first to avoid the prongs of the bracelet/choker from getting caught. The prongs will loosen if it gets caught on clothing. If a prong gets too loose, the stone may become insecure and fall out as the stone is handset into the prongs without any glue to affix it in place.
How to avoid the Green Finger
IMPORTANT: Traces of copper will typically be found in Gold/Rose Gold plating as this element contributes to the beautiful colour of the metal. In some extreme cases of sensitive, highly acidic skin, you may experience some oxidisation (slight greening). The other main cause of oxidisation is when chemicals commonly found in hand and body creams come into contact with plated jewellery. This is a common occurrence, even with the finest of jewellery. However, keeping jewellery dry and avoiding contact with moisture can increase the longevity of its radiance, shine and colour.
If you are allergic or sensitive to metals or have had green tainting before then you are likely to experience the same reaction.
Our 925 Sterling Silver Jewellery (all 925 Sterling Silver contains 92.5% sterling silver and 6.5% copper) may be a better option for you if have had green tainting before.
We take no responsibility or liability for any reactions that may take place; it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure all precautions are taken as we are unable to know each individual's allergies and sensitivities.
